Riu Gran Canaria is in Meloneras, which is one of the nicest spots on the island if you’re after something a bit more upmarket but still totally relaxed. The hotel’s right on the seafront, so you get brilliant views of the Atlantic, especially at sunset. You’re only a short walk from the Maspalomas sand dunes and there’s a lovely promenade lined with shops, bars, and restaurants. It’s not the busiest part of Gran Canaria, which makes it great if you’re after some peace and quiet with a touch of luxury. You can get taxis easily and there’s a good bus route too, so it’s easy to explore the island.

The place is spotless and really well looked after. You’ve got three pools, including an infinity pool with sea views (adults only), plus a kids’ splash park. There’s a full daily activity schedule, live entertainment at night, and a spa if you fancy a bit of pampering. The gardens are beautiful, and the whole place has this calm, spacious feel to it – nothing ever feels crowded.

If you fancy treating yourself, the swim up rooms are brilliant. These are in the adults-only section of the hotel, so it's super peaceful. You’ve got a stylish bedroom, a separate lounge, and best of all, your own little terrace with a plunge pool. It’s the kind of spot you could happily spend the whole day in. Great for a honeymoon or just a bit of luxury. You get premium amenities too, like a coffee machine and upgraded toiletries. It’s one of those "you’ll never want to leave" types of rooms.

Buffet Restaurant
The hotel’s main restaurant serves up a delicious buffet-style spread with a variety of dishes to suit all tastes. From freshly cooked omelettes at breakfast to international favourites at dinner, you’ll never go hungry. The chefs focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, so everything tastes as good as it looks. Plus, there are plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans, and little ones.
Themed Restaurants
If you’re staying for more than a few days, you’ve got to try the themed restaurants. There’s an Asian one and a grill place – both included in the all-inclusive, but you do need to book. The grill restaurant does great steaks and burgers with a bit of a gourmet twist, and the Asian place is a nice change from the usual buffet. It’s more relaxed, more atmospheric, and feels like a night out – but without spending extra. There's also an Italian restaurant too.
Bars
You’re never far from a bar here – which is handy, because it’s all-inclusive 24/7. The pool bar is perfect for a midday mojito or an afternoon soft drink while you’re sunbathing. In the evening, the lounge bar is where most people end up before or after the shows – they’ve got everything from beers and wines to cocktails and coffees. There’s even a sports bar if you want to catch a match.

The hotel is super family-friendly, and the RiuLand kids’ club is brilliant. They’ve got loads of activities going on every day – from arts and crafts to treasure hunts and games. The staff are really engaging and speak multiple languages, so all the kids get involved. There’s a playground too, and in the evening there’s usually a mini disco before the main entertainment starts.

Evenings at Riu Gran Canaria have a great atmosphere. After dinner, most people head over to the main stage area where the entertainment team puts on different shows each night. There’s a mix of live music, themed performances, dance acts, and the occasional comedy or quiz night.
Nearby Attractions
You’re in a great spot for exploring Gran Canaria. Just along the promenade you’ve got the famous Maspalomas dunes — definitely worth a walk, especially at sunset. The Meloneras area itself has a lovely upmarket vibe with boutique shops, beach bars, and seafront restaurants if you fancy a change of scene. There’s also a golf course nearby, and the lively Playa del Ingles is only a short taxi ride away if you’re after more nightlife. Boat trips, waterparks, and day tours are all easy to book too, either online or through the hotel reception.

The hotel is just a 30 minute drive away from Gran Canaria airport. For simplicity, it's worth getting these included or added on with the likes of TUI, Thomas Cook and On The Beach.
